What he was saying sounded all rosy and cute, but this is Sibusiso we’re talking about here; the man whose level of selfishness is sky high. Trusting him was a distant thought to me, because of the hell he put me through over the past few weeks.. “Mandy, are you even listening to me?” he asked. His voice snapped me out of my thoughts. “Yes, I’m listening” I replied.. “Your silence is scaring me” he said. “I didn’t mean to scare you.. I’m quiet because I don’t want to get carried away by what you’re saying” I replied.. “What do you mean?” he asked. “Just a few days ago, you wanted nothing to do with me, and now you are all about helping me raise my baby” I explained.. “Oh.. Well, look, I know I’ve been your worst nightmare. I won’t lie and justify my actions, because there is nothing that I can say that could make up for the things I put you through. All I can tell you though is that I am willing to change. I am willing to make this parenting thing work” he said. “I don’t want to be caught up in the middle of it all. I don’t want to take risks and let you in, only for you to hurt me again” I said. He held my hand gently rubbed it.. “Mandy, I know you don’t trust me. I know I’ve hurt you and broken your heart. Look, I’m willing to make it work” he convinced me. I didn’t know what to think. That’s just the thing with Sibusiso. He is good with words, while his actions are a complete opposite. “I know you don’t trust me, and I don’t blame you. All I’m asking for, is for you to give me a chance to prove myself” he said.. Well, whatever…

We talked about general stuff for a while. “So, are you staying with your boyfriend here?” he randomly asked. The question sort of caught me off guard, but I maintained my calm.. “Yeah” I coldly replied.. “Oh okay. How does he feel about your pregnancy?” he asked. “He’s okay with it” I replied. “Okay. So you still have sex and all that?” he asked. The question was honestly out of line. “I don’t want to talk about it” I replied. “No, I’m just asking. You’re carrying my child, and its only fair that I know who you sleep with” he said.. “Sibusiso, this is my body. I don’t have to answer to you” I told him.. He nodded. “Yes, I’m sorry.” he apologized. He seemed sincere.. “How’s my brother?” I asked. His face lit up, and his eyes told a story of love.. “My boy is okay. He’s happy and healthy” he proudly announced.. I smiled.. “I’m sure he misses me” I said.. “He does, a lot. He sometimes talk about you” he said. I smiled wider. “Really? And what does he say?” I asked. “He’s a baby, so things he says won’t make sense.. He normally just shouts your name and mumble stuff” he replied. “What does he call me?” I asked. He laughed. “He calls you Aphumle” he replied, and we both laughed.. “That’s so cute. I need to see him” I said.. “You should visit. But first, I have to confess to my wife” he said. “What does your wife have to do with this?” I asked. “Things are going to be a little dramatic after the confession, so I don’t want you to be a part of it” he replied. “No, I need to see him before the drama begins.” I insisted. “He’s at creche now, and my wife will pick him up” he said. “When are you telling her about this?” I asked. “Today” he replied. “Can I visit my brother before that happens? I miss him” I asked. “Please wait until this whole thing is over. If she sees you now, she will link your visit to my confession” he explained. Now I had to accommodate him. We agreed that I’d visit when the whole drama had died down. His visit was somehow therapeutic to me. Hearing him say all those things put my heart at ease. My worst nightmare was raising my child alone. I knew nothing about raising kids and all that..

My phone rang, while I was still in the car with Sibusiso, it was Phila.. “Phila, hey” I picked up.. “My friend, how are you?” she asked. “I’m good, and you?” I replied. “I’m good too. Where are you?” she asked. “Home. Why?” I responded. “I miss you, and I have vouchers to a beauty spa” she said.. “A spa? So what are you saying?” I asked. “I want you to join me” she replied. “When?” I asked. “Now, dude. Are you game?” she asked.. Of course I was game, did she even have to ask?! “Yes, I’m game” I said.. “Cool, I’m coming” she said, hanging up.. I looked at Sibusiso.. “My friend is coming over” I announced. “Oh? So does that mean I have to go?” he asked. “She’s taking me out” I replied. “Oh,okay. I guess I’ll see you around then” he said. His voice carried a bit of disappointment. “Yeah, we’ll keep in touch” I said.. We said our goodbyes and I stepped out of the car.. I got into the house and took a quick shower, and went to get dressed in a floral short dress and a Red pair of sandals.. Phila arrived, just as I was fixing my hair. I grabbed my bag and rushed out. She was with her man in the car.. I stepped into the car and greeted, and they greeted back.. “Little Miss Sunshine, I’m here to take you out. My man over here has booked us a spa treatment, and he will drop us off there.” she said.. “Oh, okay. Thanks, Vuyani” I responded. “Its a pleasure” he replied. We drove off. The spa treatment is what I needed in my life. My body needed the massages and facials .. Even though I couldn’t lie on my tummy for long, but we still managed to make it work.

Later, we went out to dinner. My day was sealed with lots of love and relaxation. At the dinner table, we tried to keep our conversations as light and general as possible.. “So Mandy, Phila tells me you’re doing a computer course?!” Vuyani said.. I nodded.. “Yes, and I’m almost done” I replied. “You should talk to her, get her to consider such courses as well” he said. I looked at Phila and she looked away. “Yeah, I will” I replied. “Please do. As her friend, I feel I should talk to you about this. Phila needs to get her life back on track. She’s young and very beautiful. I don’t get why she’s allowing Meissie to use her like this” he said. I really didn’t want to be caught in the middle of romantic feuds. I just shrugged my shoulders and continued indulging on the greatness of my food. Gosh, it tasted good.. When we were done, they drove me home..

Chukwudi was in the kitchen, doing the dishes when I got home.. I greeted, and he greeted back.. I walked to my room. As I was changing into my pyjamas, someone knocked on my door.. I went to open. Chukwudi was standing there.. “Mandy, could you come over to the living room?” he asked. “Why?” I asked. “You’ll find out soon enough.” he replied.. I sighed.. “Okay, I’m coming” I said.. He turned and walked away. I quickly wore my slippers and followed him.. In the living room, everyone was there, and I mean everyone who lived in that house, including our beloved Ntombi.. I sat down.. “Thank you for coming, Mandy.. I’m sure you’re wondering why I called you here” Chukwudi said.. I looked at him and remained silent.. “Mandy, let me cut to the chase” Zizo said, slightly shifting on her seat.. I looked at her, still maintaining my silence.. “We’ve noticed that you have moved on with your life, and that’s a good thing. We’re happy for you, because you can’t hold on to the past. Our problem though is that we’ve noticed various cars stopping here for you. Your love life is none of our business, and you have every right to see whoever you want to see. But, seeing many cars outside our house makes your love life our business. This is our home, and we refuse to allow you to turn it into your hook-up site” she said.. “Don’t get us wrong, Mandy. We are just avoiding situations where these men fight over you. Whether we like it or not, that would involve us as well” Chukwudi said.. For a few minutes, silence loomed over our heads. “I hope you understand, Mandy. This is for our safety. We don’t want to see ourselves involved in fights that don’t concern us” Ntombi explained.. I let out a slight laugh.. “So, its either you change your ways or you leave us in peace. We will not have our lives put at risk by your twisted ways” Zizo said. “So that’s what this is all about” I said.. They all blankly stared at me.. “This is not about the cars and people who visit me. It’s about you guys, kicking me out” I said..”No, its really not like that. We love having you around” Chukwudi lied. Yes, he was lying. Nobody loved having me around. “Oh, save it, Chukwudi. You don’t have to lie to me. I know you guys don’t like having me around” I said. “Mandy, this is not about you. This is only about our safety” Ntombi said. “What does your safety have to do with this? I asked.. “You don’t know who visits me, and you don’t know the nature of their visits. I have no business explaining my life to any of you, because you have all shown me where your loyalties lie. You keep assuming that whoever comes here is my boyfriend, and not for a single day have I ever told any of you that. Assumption is the mother of all screw-ups” I exploded. What freaked me out the most was Alex’s silence. “We’re just…” I cut Chukwudi short.. “Let me finish” I said. He kept quiet.. “If you guys want to kick me out, go right ahead. I will not discuss my private life with you, so if you want to kick me out because of that, go right ahead.” I said, getting up and walking away. I could feel homelessness slowly creeping in…
